I find their friendship to be loosely held together by a few common interests. Both really enjor reading about the secret societies and the past. Also both men are skeptics and often find themselves in heated debates over the "truth" To be quite frank, I think they have OCD about controversial works and since both are knowledgeable its hard for them to ever agree on something without one of the two dropping the issue of bringing up a new one. I would have to say they are not what I would consider typical friends. When Casaubon goes to Brazil they don't communicate for over a year and when they do it is on the issue of secret societies not about the normal "how are you?" etc.
